All in Safety – Safety Week 2025

Alston Construction is proud to be an advocate and sponsor of Construction Safety Week, championing this year’s theme: “All in Together: Plan. Own. Commit.”

Throughout May, every Alston jobsite and office will display our custom Safety Banners as a visible reminder of our commitment to safety. Our teams will go over topics surrounding Fall Prevention/Protection at weekly all-hands safety meetings, toolbox talks, and jobsite safety.

In 2024 alone, we reached over 3,000 workers with vital education and awareness initiatives. Let’s continue to lead by example and show that at Alston, Safety Never Compromises.

Safety Is Personal: Real Stories from the Field

In honor of Culture Month, we’re shining a light on the heart of our “Safety Never Compromise” culture. During a recent roundtable, our field team members opened up about powerful, personal moments when safety protocols didn’t just work—they made all the difference. In some cases, they even saved lives.

These real-life stories are a reminder that safety is more than a policy or checklist. It’s a personal commitment we make to ourselves and each other every single day, ensuring that everyone goes home safely!

During a recent roundtable, Superintendent Dino Guizzo kicked off the conversation with a powerful account of a jobsite incident where proper safety equipment ultimately saved a subcontractor’s life.

Regional Safety Manager Greg Vannelli , CSP, CHST, CPT shares a powerful reminder about the life-saving importance of Personal Protective Equipment.

Greg recounts a personal story involving a family member whose life was saved on a jobsite to proper head protection. His message is clear: never take PPE for granted.

Superintendent Anthony Colla from our Southern California office discussed the critical importance of following safety protocols on the jobsite. The near-miss described in the video is a clear example of why maintaining and using protective equipment is essential, even during routine tasks. Thanks to the properly installed safety guard, a potentially serious incident was avoided—proving that attention to detail makes all the difference!

In this powerful story, Phillip Noblett shares how wearing a full-brim hard hat—something his father-in-law encouraged, not required—protected him from a serious injury when a 16-inch block fell on his head. During Construction Safety Week, we’re reminded that safety isn’t just about checking boxes. Sometimes, going above and beyond the basics can make all the difference. Choose the right PPE. Speak up. Take that extra step. Because safety starts with each of us.

Our final safety story of the week comes from Regional Safety Manager Lucas Layendecker out of our Nashville office. Lucas highlighted the importance of fall protection and the dangers of complacency, both from the user’s and supervisor’s perspectives. His message was a reminder to take a closer look at the systems we’re using: Are we using them as the manufacturer designed? If not, it’s critical to do the necessary research and become familiar with them. This is especially important when it comes to understanding the equipment and systems our subcontractors are using in the field
