Procter & Gamble recently opened a new 1.3 million square foot fulfillment center in Morris, Illinois. On Monday October, 9, the Green Building Certification Inc. (GBCI) recognized the design and construction of the facility with LEED for Warehouse & Distribution Silver level certification. LEED certification is a recognition of the sustainable design, construction and operational aspects of a building. The certification is a step towards P&G’s larger commitment to net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040.
Designed by St. Louis-based Mitchell and Hugeback Architects and built by the Chicago office of Alston Construction, the massive facility features automated picking systems and autonomous guided vehicles. The project incorporated sustainability aspects that impact the site, water consumption, energy efficiency, building materials, and indoor environmental quality.
Key Features:
Cyclone Energy Group provided consulting services to guide the project smoothly through the LEED certification process. Cyclone’s project team documented requirements, created an energy model to inform the design and commissioned building systems to ensure energy efficient and reliable operation.
