Our Chicago office represented Alston Construction at the 2022 Illinois REjournals Awards Gala. We were proud to be nominated for GC of the Year in the Industrial Market. Congratulations to all of the winners!
In 2021, Alston’s 35th year in business, we reached the most man hours in history (over 7 million between our employees and subcontracting partners), added 191 new team members, opened 4 new offices, started over 200 projects, and completed 98 projects. One project was a part of the ReJournal Largest Industrial Builds List, the 1.4 million square foot distribution center for Medline Industries in Grayslake, Illinois. Across all business units, Alston completed over 28.5 million square feet of construction, including completing milestone projects in our Food & Beverage Business Unit and our Amazon Business Unit. In fact, we have increased our work-in-place by more than 25% year over year for the last 5 years. More importantly, our safety performance metrics have improved during this same period. Our Experience Modification Rate (EMR) of 0.65 is competitive and well below the industry average of 1.0. We received multiple accolades from Best Places to Work locally to being a part of the national lists, Top 100 Contractors with ENR and Top 50 Contractors with BD+C. Alston Construction has also continued to build internal processes to meet our clients’ needs. Our in-house BIM/VDC team continue to grow with more staff and services. Other technological improvements include enhanced scheduling capabilities, the use of drones, 360 cameras and other devices to study sites and projects prior to breaking ground, which is not new to the industry but not been priority in our market sectors like warehouse facilities. All of our improvements improve and foster collaboration with our project stakeholders while providing the best value and solutions for our clients.
