Congratulations to Scott Picard, Alston Construction’s new Vice President/General Manager of Houston and AIM/a+!
We sat down with Scott to learn more about his vision, leadership style, and what excites him most about this new role.
Q: What are your top priorities as you step into this position?
Scott: My focus is on developing our people, strengthening client relationships, and expanding our impact in the Houston market. While we continue to lead in light industrial, I’m also driving growth into office buildings, medical office, and PEMB projects. In addition, I oversee our automation division, where we’re advancing solutions in inventory management, supply chain, and quality assurance.
Q: What’s one challenge you’re ready to tackle?
Scott: I’m eager to break the perception that Alston is only a large-scale tilt-wall contractor. Our team has the expertise and local knowledge to deliver everything from a 30,000-SF facility to a million+ SF complex with the same attention to detail and quality.
Q: How would you describe your leadership philosophy?
Scott: I believe in servant leadership. I’ll never ask anyone to do something I haven’t done or wouldn’t do myself. Leadership is about developing people, building trust through open communication, and setting clear expectations so our teams can thrive.
Q: How do you see Houston’s business environment evolving?
Scott: Technology will continue to reshape our industry. I see AI and other tools not as replacements, but as resources that free our teams from busywork so they can focus on creative problem-solving and proactive solutions.
Q: What’s something people might not know about you?
Scott: I have a wide range of hobbies—hunting, playing music, woodworking, pottery—you name it. And when it comes to music, I’ll listen to just about any genre, from country to classical to heavy metal.
Q: Do you have a favorite Houston spot?
Scott: Minute Maid Park, without a doubt. I was named after Mike Scott and Nolan Ryan, so I’ve been an Astros fan my entire life. Being able to share that passion with my family, especially during the 2017 World Series, was unforgettable.
Scott recently spoke at the Interface Houston Industrial Conference, where he addressed two major forces shaping the industry: the rapid rise of automation and the unique opportunities within the Houston industrial market. His remarks highlighted both the challenges and advantages these trends present for developers, contractors, and end users alike.
Following his presentation, Picard joined Quality Assurance Manager April Parham and Supply Chain Manager Haleem Iddriss in hosting Alston’s booth. Together, they engaged with industry peers, strengthened connections across the Houston market, and shared insights into Alston’s expertise and capabilities. The conference served as a valuable platform for fostering relationships and advancing discussions on the future of industrial development in the region.
