Alston Construction and Stonemont Financial Group broke ground on the Columbus Castings project. Work will begin on the long-awaited redevelopment of the former Columbus Castings site, a 71-acre South Side landmark that has sat vacant for years. The three buildings totaling 859,240 square feet on the South Parsons Avenue site will be renamed Castings Commerce Park. The three buildings – about 112,000 square feet, 148,000 square feet and 600,000 square feet – will be speculative and awaiting tenants, and they are geared toward warehouse or manufacturing opportunities.

The project is part of a broader revitalization of the South Side, which has pushed south down Parsons Avenue for several years.
