As the organization that delivers federal disaster loans to businesses and homeowners in the aftermath of disasters, the Citrus Heights office of the Small Business Administration itself has to be protected from possible terrorist threats and natural disasters.
Alston Construction managed the design-build construction services of the two-story 81,000-square-foot build-to-suit office building that serves as the Disaster Area 4 Headquarters. Above and beyond providing the design-build construction services, Alston Construction was responsible for ensuring the proper level of security was maintained during the construction process while still allowing the public access to the site.
Additionally, Alston Construction designed intricate interior finishes, and designed and installed glass and glazing systems that met the blast and impact loading requirements stipulated by the Federal Government. The blast requirements include bomb blast protection, moving vehicle barriers, video surveillance and bullet resistant walls and glazing. The facility also features a central computer center with an emergency back-up generator.
Despite 30 rain delay days, Alston Construction was able to coordinate the construction activities with the tenant’s move-in schedule without any delays to the overall project.
