Houston Office Awarded an ABC Excellence in Construction Award for HOU8

Every year, Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston present the Excellence in Construction Awards. This event, established in 2000, recognizes outstanding projects in the commercial and industrial construction industry. The Alston Construction Houston team was recognized for HOU8 and won the Excellence in Construction Award for General Contractor on an Industrial Project ($50M-$100M). The winners were announced at the ABC EIC Gala held on October 27th at the Ballroom at Bayou Place.

More About HOU8

Time is one of construction’s most valuable commodities – especially in the e-commerce market. The profitability of these construction projects depends on the ability to manage schedules and identify value opportunities. Delays brought on by inclement weather, supply chain issues, labor shortages, and material escalation can pose a risk to meeting deadlines. The HOU8 project team had nine months to complete the project. Meeting a nine month schedule for a tilt-wall distribution center is not unheard of; however, when the footprint is 1,325,015 square feet, and the client requires a phased turnover (so they can move in while the general contractor team is still building) makes the nine months a phenomenally fast schedule. In fact, the first turnover was 4 month after breaking ground and mobilizing on site. Not even a historic weather event could stop them. HOU8 is an example of not only meeting an accelerated nine month schedule, but meeting every turnover phase within that schedule, under budget and without recordables.
