When a private aviation developer set out to build three new hangars at a South Florida Executive Airport, the project’s success hinged on one thing: getting thousands of parts and materials to the right place at the right time—without overwhelming a tightly regulated, high-traffic jobsite.
Brought in during preconstruction, Alston’s AIM/a+ team* worked alongside the construction team to bring order, visibility, and precision to a complex operation. On this project, the Supply Chain team oversaw inventory control, shipping coordination, and just-in-time expediting for the pre-engineered metal building system, fabricated by a specialty manufacturer and supplemented by multiple outside suppliers. The scale was significant: over 21,000 packages across 11 material categories, arriving in 122 truckloads. The project was further complicated by space constraints, active crane paths, and the complex sequencing required for concurrent hangar construction. In collaboration with our Alston project management team, AIM/a+ responded with a hangar-by-hangar material separation plan, secured additional laydown space outside the main fence, and coordinated deliveries to avoid congestion.
AIM/a+ leveraged its proprietary real-time work management operating system (OS)—an in-house platform with integrated Warehouse Management System (WMS), Transportation Management System (TMS), and Customer Relationship Management System (CRM) supply chain capabilities—to bring visibility and transparency to all project stakeholders. Through this system, every project team member had access to real-time information on material status, shipment ETAs, planned order receipts, automated notifications, and more. Weekly reports and daily trailer meetings further ensured alignment across teams, while manual quality assurance checkpoints identified mislabeled or non-conforming parts early. By providing this level of insight and accountability across all phases of the project lifecycle, AIM/a+ enabled stakeholders to stay aligned, anticipate challenges, and make informed decisions with confidence.
The results spoke for themselves: Materials averaged just three days from pickup (shipper/manufacturer) to offload (project/site receipt), achieving a 97.5% On Time, in Full (OTIF) rate and under 2% shrinkage. Saving more than 150 man-hours through dashboard-driven materials management, AIM/a+ was able to assist with keeping construction operations moving smoothly. Due to this collaborative effort, the team has already been tapped to lead supply chain supervision on the developer’s next aviation hangar program.
